ASC Division of Qualitative Research (DQR)
The purpose of the Division of Qualitative Research is to provide a supportive community for all researchers in criminology and criminal justice and to build a better understanding of qualitative research across the field. The Division will be used to share resources for navigating the academy as a qualitative researcher, including how to respond to reviews, manage tenure expectations, retain high standards of data collection and analysis within existing institutional reward structures, and address ethical issues that are unique to qualitative research. It also aims to increase understanding among scholars whose training has been primarily or solely in quantitative methods so that they may apply appropriate standards of assessment during peer review and better appreciate the equity problems that result from the methodological divide in our field. Finally, it aims to advocate for changing institutional practices related to publishing and career advancement for qualitatively oriented researchers. (Current Chair: Jamie Fader)
