Permissions to Photocopy for Classroom Use
Photocopies may be made free of charge for educational purposes. Please submit the Reprint Form by fax or email. The form will then be returned with signed permission. Please use a separate form per request.
Permissions to Reprint / Abridgement for Published Works
Reprint permission assumes that the article/figure will be used in full, as is. Edited versions need to follow abridging instructions.
The reprint and abridgement fees are: Whole article, $25 per page ($250 max); Figure, $50 each.
Reprint permissions are given on a pre-pay basis only. Please use the Reprint Form and send (fax or email) in with your payment method. The form will then be returned with signed permission. Please use a separate form per request.
Abridging an article to reprint:
If text editors wish to use an article abridgement, the text editor must obtain permission from the lead author.
If the lead author is deceased or otherwise unavailable, the 2nd author may grant approval for use of the abridged article.
In the event that the 2nd author is deceased or unavailable, the 3rd, then 4th authors, etc., may grant approval for use of the abridgement.
In the event that all authors are deceased or unavailable, the proposed text editor may contact the seated ASC Vice President who may grant approval for the use of the abridgement, as long as the abridgement is a fair and proper representation of the original article as it appeared in full.
Instructions to obtain abridgement permission:
- Use Abridgement Form. Fill out top two sections.
- Contact author with a copy of the abridged work, to obtain permission.
If approved; Editor should then send to the ASC office:
- Abridgement permission form with author signature or forward email from the author giving permission.
- Reprint Form and payment method to the ASC office.
Short passages of 200 words or less are considered fair use and do not require permission.
