Consortium of Social Science Associations (COSSA) –
2024 Social Science Advocacy Day

It’s the tenth anniversary of COSSA’s annual Social Science Advocacy Day! Advocacy Day is back in Washington, DC on April 8-9, 2024.

Advocacy Day brings together social and behavioral scientists and science advocates from across the country to engage with policymakers in Congress about issues important to our community, such as federal funding. You will be teamed up with advocates from your home state and participate in a day of in-person meetings with House and Senate offices on Capitol Hill. Through these meetings, you will share reasons why federal government support for social and behavioral science research is so critical and discuss how you and your institution can be helpful to your elected officials. Advocates will be given all the resources they need to have successful meetings, including a preparatory seminar, and all your meetings will be scheduled for you. The only thing you need to do is come to Washington prepared to talk about why you love social and behavioral science!

Title: Conversations with Death Row

Description: Criminologists and Faculty interested in setting up a live conversation with a Death Row prisoner can reach out to journalist Tessie Castillo, editor of Crimson Letters: Voices from Death Row. Castillo and her four co-authors, who are serving death sentences in North Carolina, set up events whereby the co-authors call into classrooms, conferences and departments from prison to engage in rich Q&A discussions on a variety of themes, including capital punishment, wrongful conviction, restorative justice, solitary confinement, mental health in prison, criminal justice reform, and life on Death Row. This unique event offers the opportunity for audiences to engage with people directly impacted by the death penalty.

Invitation to Contribute to The Encyclopedia of Domestic Violence and The Encyclopedia of Sexual Psychology and Behavior

Dr. Todd Shackelford is curating two new encyclopedias, and would like to extend an open invitation to any authors interested in contributing entries. Prospective authors are also encouraged to recommend colleagues, graduate students, or advanced undergraduate students to contribute entries as well.

The Springer Nature Encyclopedia of Domestic Violence will be the most comprehensive encyclopedia of domestic violence to date, and will include over 2,000 entries from authors across a wide array of disciplines.

The Springer Nature Encyclopedia of Sexual Psychology and Behavior will be a comprehensive encyclopedia of evolutionary perspectives on sexual psychology and behavior, and will also include over 2,000 entries from authors across a wide array of disciplines.
