What is the ASC Employment Exchange?

At the ASC annual meeting in November, the Employment Exchange offers a variety of services to facilitate employment-related contacts and discussions. The services include:

  • At each year’s meeting, an area is set aside and designated as the Employment Exchange. Within this area, table space is made available for employment-related discussions or interviews. Tables are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis, bu the ASC Administrator on site.
  • A bulletin board message service is offered to facilitate contact between employers and candidates.
  • Employers wanting to participate in the Employment Exchange must have a valid position posted on the ASC’s Career Center Position Postings page, or have purchased a posting onsite. To purchase a position posting prior to the meeting, please use the Position Posting Form.
  • A table is set up to display multiple copies of binders that contain printed copies of position postings that are valid and listed on the ASC’s Career Center pages of website (This service is included in the fee for the position posting). Also, displayed on the table are multiple copies of binders that contain printed copies of candidate postings that are valid and listed on the website (There is no charge for this service, however, it is available to current ASC members only).
    • Position postings can be purchased onsite at the annual meeting. Payment is required onsite and follows the same fee structure as the ASC online Career Center. Payment options include: credit card, check or purchase order. Position postings purchased at the annual meeting will be posted on the website during the meeting.
    • Candidate postings submitted by ASC members at the annual meeting will be posted on the website during the meeting. The member will need to log into her/his ASC member portal and submit the Candidate Posting Form.

How does this work?

Looking for Employment, or looking to promote an open position?

At the ASC Employment Exchange, you will find 3 binders marked “POSTED POSITION ANNOUNCEMENTS.” All binders have the same set of job postings. The binders contain the position postings presently posted on the ASC website’s Career Center. Most listings are for academic positions, with a few research positions.

Looking for Employment Candidates, or looking to promote yourself as a Candidate?

Also available are 3 binders marked “CANDIDATE CREDENTIALS.” The binders contain ASC members’ candidate materials submitted and posted on the ASC website’s Career Center. We also accept ASC members’ candidate materials submitted at the conference on a self-service basis. For this, you need 3 copies of your vita and cover sheet materials on three-hole punch paper. You can then put your materials in the binder, in alphabetical order, with the materials already there. For ASC members, candidate credentials can be submitted for posting on the ASC website via the link in your member portal; during the ASC meeting they will be posted as time permits.

Trying to Connect with Someone?

Prospective employers are invited to place “green dot” on their name tag, while candidates are invited to wear a “red” dot. When Green meets Red, strike up a conversation! To become part of the “dot” club, please visit the ASC Administrator’s table at the Employment Exchange.

Prospective employers are welcome to use the Employment Exchange as a meeting place for discussions and interviews. See the ASC Administrator at the table at the entrance of the Employment Exchange for a blank interview sign-up sheet. Once completed, interview sign-up sheets are posted on the bulletin boards. Candidates interested in interviewing will sign up for an available day/time to be interviewed. Interview sign-up is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Use of tables by prospective employers also is on a first-come, first-serve basis. When you arrive for your scheduled interview session, check in with the ASC Administrator to be assigned a table and a table number, he/she will share that table number with the candidate when he/she arrives for the interview. We do not accept reservations for tables. We cannot guarantee that a prospective employer nor candidates will show up for scheduled appointments.

The Employment Exchange maintains a message board so job seekers and search committee members can communicate with each other. We cannot ensure the confidentiality of the message board, and we cannot guarantee that messages will be received by the intended parties.

We do not have the capacity to make copies of materials.
